Adrian Flux compares van insurance across an extensive panel of insurers, some outside the main comparison sites, rather than selling a single fixed product. It has won the user-voted WhatVan? Insurance Company of the Year award four times since 2019, and covers both commercial and private van use, including specialist vehicles like tippers, pick-up trucks and refrigerated vans that many mainstream insurers turn away.

How HowMuch works with Adrian Flux

We're partnered with Quotezone.co.uk, as an Introducer Appointed Representative of Seopa Ltd (FCA FRN: 313860). Adrian Flux is part of Quotezone's panel of insurers and is included when you run a van insurance search. Quotezone compares your details against the underwriting criteria set by Adrian Flux, alongside every other insurer on its panel. That means a quote from Adrian Flux isn't guaranteed on every search. It depends on how your profile matches their risk appetite on the day, along with factors like your van, postcode and driving history. Quotezone runs the comparison and includes them in the results alongside other insurers. HowMuch doesn't have a direct commercial relationship with Adrian Flux. We receive a commission if you purchase a policy. We do not provide advice or make recommendations.

Types of van insurance cover

Comprehensive

Goods in Transit

Cover for cargo you carry for your business or customers.

Adrian Flux's policies

Adrian Flux sells van insurance on a third party, third party fire and theft, or comprehensive basis, built around the vehicle and its use rather than a fixed ladder of named tiers.

Comprehensive cover

includes:

  • Protection regardless of who is at fault, covering your own van as well as injury or damage claims from other people
  • Specialist underwriting arranged across its panel, covering standard commercial vans through to tippers, pick-up trucks, HGVs and refrigerated vans
  • Cover tailored to how the van is used, whether that's social, domestic and pleasure, or commercial use for a trade or business

Optional extras

  • Agreed Value cover, arranged through Qudos Insurance, insures a modified or specialist van for an agreed sum rather than its trade value
  • Excess Protect, refunds your policy excess up to an annual limit if you need to claim
  • Legal Expenses cover, arranged through Ageas, for legal costs following a non-fault accident
  • Breakdown and Roadside Assistance, through Trinity Lane Insurance, bought alongside your policy or on its own
  • Replacement Vehicle Cover, a courtesy van while yours is off the road, arranged through Great Lakes Insurance
  • Island van insurance, for vans based on the Isle of Man, Shetlands, Channel Islands, Orkney, the Hebrides and Anglesey

Who is Adrian Flux best for?

Adrian Flux suits van owners running vehicles that mainstream insurers find harder to price, tippers, pick-up trucks, refrigerated vans and other specialist bodies, along with tradespeople who need cover built around a specific trade. Its optional extras are arranged through a spread of specialist underwriters rather than bundled by Adrian Flux itself, so it rewards owners willing to build their own cover. Anyone running a standard panel van for ordinary day-to-day commercial use, with no need for agreed value or specialist underwriting, will likely find a simpler policy with a mainstream insurer instead.

What factors can affect the cost of van insurance?

Some pricing factors — like your age or driving history — are out of your control, but you can still bring down the cost of van insurance with a few smart policy choices.

Compare quotes

Shopping around could help you find a cheaper deal, as van premiums can vary widely between specialist commercial insurers.

Partnered with Quotezone

Buy early

Insurers typically offer better prices 3–4 weeks before your policy start date.

Policy choice

Buy van insurance 25+ days before renewal.

Pay annually

Insurers add interest charges to monthly instalments, making this a more expensive way to pay over the year.

Policy choice

Select annual payment if affordable.

Add a named driver

Adding experienced named drivers can lower your premium, as insurers see the policy as less risky.

Policy choice

Name experienced drivers on the policy.

Increase excess

Paying a higher voluntary excess reduces the insurer's exposure, which can lower the premium.

Policy choice

Set a higher voluntary excess you can afford.

Improve security

Adding alarms, immobilisers, trackers or parking in a secure location can reduce your premium.

Policy choice

Park overnight in a garage or secure compound where possible.

Cut add-ons

Removing add-ons you don't need or already have can lower your premium.

Policy choice

Remove cover you have separately, like breakdown.

Estimate mileage accurately

Underestimating can invalidate a policy, while overestimating can lead to higher premiums than necessary.

Policy choice

Use MOT history to gauge accurate annual mileage.

Van insurance FAQs

Yes. The nature of the work performed is a significant factor. A van used by a builder to carry tools to a single site is often viewed differently to a van used for multi-drop deliveries, where the risk of an accident in high-traffic areas is statistically higher.

Not always. Standard van insurance covers the vehicle itself, but "Tools in Transit" or "Goods in Transit" cover is often an optional add-on. It is important to check the policy summary to ensure business equipment is protected against theft or damage.

Most policies specify named drivers. While "Any Driver" policies exist, they are generally more expensive. If employees or partners need to drive the van, they must be explicitly added to the policy or meet the criteria of a fleet agreement.

Adding a business logo or sign-writing can sometimes lead to lower premiums. Many insurers view branded vans as a lower theft risk because they are more recognisable and harder for thieves to sell on quickly.

In addition to vehicle details and witness information, commercial claims may require details of any goods or tools damaged. If the van is essential for work, check if the policy provides a "like-for-like" replacement vehicle to minimise business interruption.
