At HowMuch, our mission is to provide UK consumers and SMEs with the transparency and tools they need to make informed financial decisions. This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, whom we share it with, and your rights under The Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR.

1. Introduction and Overview

HowMuch is a trading name of HowMuch Holdings LTD (“we”, “us”, or “our”), a company registered in England and Wales. Our registered office is 66 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4NA. We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) Registration Number: ZC113237.

When you use our website and services, we have an obligation to handle your personal information responsibly. This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, whom we share it with, and your rights under The Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR.

2. What information do we collect and how?

Information collected directly from you: We collect information when you fill out forms on our website (e.g., for Business Banking or Invoice Finance). This may include:

  • Business details (Company name, turnover, industry)

3. How do we use your personal information?

4. Who do we share information with?

We may share your personal information with other parties under the following circumstances: (1) with our partners or affiliates, when you ask us to share your information with them; (2) with our service providers, when required to provide our services to you; or (3) where we are required by law to disclose your personal information.

For example, when you click through to an advertiser or partner we may share information with them to enable them to record that you have been referred to them by us and to understand your buying journey. To provide you with a full range of services, we also work with our partners or we allow you to click through to a partner’s site. These partners may, independently of us, collect and process your personal data and provide you with additional comparison services or products (including financial products) or you may provide them with contact details directly to allow them to contact you to better understand your product needs.

We work closely with our partners to ensure that we only share information with them and they only share information with us that is required to enable us to provide you with our services. We will make it clear when you are leaving our site and going to one of our partners. Any information that you provide to them will be governed by their own Privacy Policy and we recommend reading their privacy policy before continuing to use their services.

Some of our partners may carry out a soft search on you or your business when assessing your eligibility for certain products or services. Soft searches do not affect your credit score and are only visible to you. Where a soft search is required we will notify you in advance so you can decide whether to proceed.

We may share your information with third-party service providers to support our internal and business operations. In such cases, service providers may use the information only as necessary to provide the services to us and are contractually required to keep your information confidential and secure.

5. What is our basis for processing?

The data protection laws require us to state the basis on which we will process your information. Our legal basis for collecting and using your personal information depends on the kind of information concerned and the specific context in which we collected it.

Performance of a contract: The use of your personal information may be necessary to perform the terms and conditions or other policies under which we provide our Services.

6. Cookies and Tracking

We use ‘cookies’ to ascertain how people navigate and use the website. This information is subsequently used to make the website more user-friendly. The information stored in the ‘cookie’ is not linked in any way to any personal information that we hold.

7. Google Advertising

Some of the advertisements that you see displayed on our website are delivered on our behalf by Google. No information which identifies you, for example your name, address, email address or telephone number, is used to provide this advertising. In order to display advertising most likely to be relevant to you, Google may place or recognize a unique “cookie” on your browser. This cookie does not collect personal data about you nor is it linked to any identifiable information about you.

8. Site Security

Your personal data’s security is very important to us. This is why, as well as ensuring we only capture the data we need to ensure we can provide you with quality services, where appropriate, our Sites use HTTPS to help keep information about you secure.

However, no data transmission over the internet can be guaranteed to be totally secure. We do our best to keep the information you disclose to us secure and have appropriate processes in place for data during transmission. However, by using Howmuch.net you accept the inherent risks of transmitting information online and will not hold us responsible for any breach of security.

9. Your data rights

If you are not satisfied with the way any complaint you make in relation to your personal information is handled by us then you may be able to refer your complaint to the relevant data protection regulator which in the UK is the Information Commissioner’s Office.

10. International transfers of personal data

HowMuch is a global company and a subsidiary of Fixr International Pty Ltd, based in Australia. As such, we may transfer and store the personal information we collect from you when you use our Services to countries other than the country in which you are located. We may transfer your personal information to the United States and other countries which may not have the same data protection laws as the country in which you initially provided the information. To the extent required by applicable law, when we transfer your personal information outside the country in which it was collected, we will take measures to protect that information in a manner that is consistent with our Privacy Policy.

For example, if we transfer your personal information to our affiliates, suppliers or other third parties outside of the country in which it was collected, we implement Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the EU Commission and use similar contractual clauses to comply with similar requirements in other jurisdictions.

By choosing to use the Services, you consent to the transfer of such information outside of your country.

11. How long do we keep your data?

We will only hold your personal information for as long as is required for us to fulfil the purposes described within this Privacy Policy or until you request that it is deleted. This includes where we may be required to hold data for legal or tax reasons or to meet our regulatory responsibilities, including the handling of complaints. As applicable, we will retain personal data for:

  • 6 years where it is needed for regulatory, tax and accounting purposes.
  • As long as we are required to by law in the event that you have provided us with your data in relation to the purchase of a financial product. This may vary depending on the product.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in the regulation or the way in which we provide certain services. This page will always show the date on which the policy was last updated.
