Adrian Flux's founder set up the company in 1973 after failing to find an insurer willing to cover his first car, a Spartan kit car, and deciding to start his own brokerage instead. More than 50 years on it has grown into the UK's largest independent insurance broker, employing over 2,000 staff from East Winch Hall, a 19th-century manor house near King's Lynn that has been its head office since 2000. It built its name insuring vehicles other insurers turned away, kit cars, modified cars and classics, and still specialises in cover most mainstream insurers won't touch.
How HowMuch works with Adrian Flux
We're partnered with Quotezone.co.uk, as an Introducer Appointed Representative of Seopa Ltd (FCA FRN: 313860). Adrian Flux is part of Quotezone's panel of insurers and is included when you run a car insurance search. Quotezone compares your details against the underwriting criteria set by Adrian Flux, alongside every other insurer on its panel. That means a quote from Adrian Flux isn't guaranteed on every search. It depends on how your profile matches their risk appetite on the day, along with factors like your car, postcode and driving history. Quotezone runs the comparison and includes them in the results alongside other insurers. HowMuch doesn't have a direct commercial relationship with Adrian Flux. We receive a commission if you purchase a policy. We do not provide advice or make recommendations.
Types of car insurance cover
Comprehensive
The highest level of cover. Pays out for damage to your own car as well as third-party vehicles, theft, fire and personal injury.
Third Party, Fire & Theft
Covers damage to others, plus your own car if it is stolen or damaged by fire. Often a sensible middle ground for lower-value vehicles.
Third Party Only
The legal minimum in the UK. Pays out for damage you cause to other people's vehicles or property — nothing for your own car.
Black Box (Telematics)
Premiums based on how you drive. A device in your car tracks mileage, speed and braking. Often cheaper for young or new drivers.
Adrian Flux's policies
Adrian Flux sells car insurance on a comprehensive or third party, fire and theft basis, built around the vehicle rather than a fixed ladder of named tiers.
Comprehensive cover
includes:
- Damage to your own car, plus injury or damage claims from other people
- Access to an agreed value policy, arranged exclusively through Qudos Insurance, so a modified or classic car is covered for what it's actually worth rather than a standard trade valuation
- Like-for-like cover for genuine modifications, rather than treating them as an afterthought
- Specialist underwriting arranged across a range of insurers depending on what's being covered, from kit cars to 4x4s to Japanese imports
Optional extras
- Agreed Value cover, arranged through Qudos Insurance, insures a modified or classic car for an agreed sum rather than its trade value
- Excess Protect, refunds your policy excess up to an annual limit if you need to claim
- Keycare, covers lost, stolen or damaged keys, arranged through Trinity Lane Insurance
- Legal Expenses cover, arranged through Ageas, for legal costs following a non-fault accident
- Breakdown and Roadside Assistance, through Trinity Lane Insurance, bought alongside your policy or on its own
- Replacement Car Cover, a courtesy car while yours is off the road, arranged through Great Lakes Insurance
- Tools and Goods in Transit cover, arranged through Canopius, for tradespeople carrying tools or goods
- Licence Defence, arranged through AM Trust Europe, covers legal representation if your driving licence is at risk
Who is Adrian Flux best for?
Adrian Flux suits owners of vehicles a standard insurer won't easily cover, modified cars, kit cars, classics and imports that need an agreed value rather than a generic trade valuation. Its optional extras are arranged through a spread of specialist underwriters rather than bundled by Adrian Flux itself, so it rewards people willing to build their own cover rather than pick a single all-in-one package. Anyone with a completely standard car and no interest in agreed value or modification cover will likely find a simpler, cheaper policy with a mainstream insurer instead.
What factors can affect the cost of car insurance?
While some of the biggest factors affecting your price — like your age and driving experience — are out of your control, you can still lower your car insurance cost by making a few policy changes.
Compare quotes
Shopping around could help you find a cheaper deal, as prices can vary widely between insurers.
Buy early
Insurers generally offer better prices 3–4 weeks before your policy start date.
Policy choice
Buy car insurance 25+ days before renewal.
Pay annually
Insurers add interest charges to monthly instalments, making this a more expensive way to pay overall.
Policy choice
Select annual payment if affordable.
Add a named driver
Adding more experienced named drivers can lower your premium, as insurers see the policy as less risky.
Policy choice
Have additional experienced drivers named on the policy.
Increase excess
If you pay more towards any claim you reduce the insurer's risk, so they will usually drop your premium.
Policy choice
Set a higher voluntary excess you can afford.
Add driving licence
Adding your driving licence number lets insurers verify your details and assess your risk more accurately.
Policy choice
Add all driver licence numbers.
Cut add-ons
Removing add-ons you don't need or can get elsewhere will lower your premium.
Policy choice
Remove cover like breakdown if you have it elsewhere.
Drive fewer miles
Cutting back on driving where possible can lower costs, as you're a lower risk of making a claim.
Policy choice
Estimate annual mileage accurately.

Car insurance FAQs
Yes. Employment details can influence the cost. If a role requires significant time on the road, providers may view this as an increased risk. Statistically, certain occupations are associated with higher claim frequencies, which can impact the premium.
Paying in a single annual lump sum is typically the most cost-effective method. While monthly instalments can help with budgeting, they usually involve interest charges on the credit provided, making the total cost higher over the year.
Providers typically perform a "soft search" to verify details when generating quotes; this does not affect a credit score. However, a full credit check is usually required if you choose to pay via monthly instalments.
To estimate mileage, calculate weekly usage and multiply by 52, or check previous MOT certificates for an accurate historical record. Accuracy is essential: underestimating can invalidate a policy, while overestimating can lead to higher premiums than necessary.
Contact the insurance provider directly to start the process. If theft or vandalism is involved, a crime reference number from the police is required. Ensure details of other drivers and witnesses are gathered. All incidents must be reported to the insurer, even if a claim is not being pursued.
